
About Regional Parent Technical Assistance Centers
Regional Parent Technical Assistance Centers help Parent Centers increase their capacity to serve families of children with disabilities from birth to 26. The focus is on helping families to understand special and general education laws and evidence-based practices and to actively participate in planning and decision-making about supports and services for early intervention, education, and transition to adult life.
Our Technical Assistance Activities & Services
The Regional Centers offer resources and activities designed to give Parent Centers effective tools and strategies to meet the needs of the families they serve. Each Regional PTAC has a menu of proactive technical assistance services tailored to the strengths and needs of the Parent Centers in their region, including:
- On-site visits working directly with centers’ boards and staff.
- One to one consultations with center directors.
- Needs assessments.
- Individualized plans for customized technical assistance.
- Conferences, teleconferences and other group events for learning and sharing.
- Training and information about current and emerging topics such as:
- Non-profit and grant management and programmatic issues.
- General and special education laws/regulations
- Evidence-based practices in education and early intervention
- Inclusion and natural environments
- Transitions
- Under-served and/or underrepresented populations
- Alternative dispute resolution
- Technology
Parent Technical Assistance Centers are funded through cooperative agreements with the US Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs, IDEA Part D.
