Technical Assistance Services
The ALLIANCE National PTAC supports Parent Centers through a variety of technical assistance services, which include:
• creating standardized publications and curricula on relevant issues such as IDEA, Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), parent and professional collaboration, the special education process, nonprofit management, and more
• developing translated materials in Hmong, Spanish and Somali
• providing culturally competent information and resources for reaching underrepresented families
• coordinating unified data collection which reflect outcomes from parents of children with disabilities served by the nation’s Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) and Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs)
• coordinating a national conference and topical institutes, attended by representatives from PTIs and CPRCs, that are designed to provide timely information and education about children and youth with disabilities and for attendees to engage in collaborative dialogue
• facilitating webinars on evidence-based practices such as early childhood outcomes, postsecondary transition, and more
• writing and disseminating a monthly e-newsletter, ALLIANCE TA Newsline, which includes Parent Center updates, announcements and news, featured resources, technology information and nonprofit management information
• developing nonprofit management resources featuring a comprehensive manual, available on line or in print, that provides specific information vital to parent centers, including board of director protocol, staff and personnel development, financial overview and more
• providing technology expertise featuring an interactive “tech corner” containing technology tips helpful to daily business functions of Parent Centers and technology institutes with practical information designed for Parent Center staff
• supporting a free, on-line data management system (AIMS) designed to collect and disseminate information about the persons served by Parent Centers, and
• offering other resources to help Parent Centers serve families of children with disabilities
